Age 25
Race Human
Hometown Midtown, Kalashport

Overview

Tae-hyun is Hailey’s character for the Faction Campaign. He is a Cleric of the Travelers’ Temple of Celestian in Midtown who has made it his mission to help people throughout the city find their path in life, including his own.

Personality and Relationships

Compared to the rest of the Faction Campaign party, Tae is mild-mannered and soft-spoken. He is also one of the only good-aligned characters in the entire campaign. Tae is willing to make friends with just about anybody, even showing kindness to those the rest of the party dislikes, such as SCHNI. Overall, other people see Tae as level-headed and stable, which may or may not be actually true.

Unlike the stereotypical Cleric, Tae has shown little issue using lethal force. He owns a gun and an enchanted rapier from Evening City and has gone on the offensive on several occasions, especially against oppressive forces like the POG officers. Perhaps deep down, all Clerics know that killing their enemies is the most efficient way to keep their friends safe.

Tae is good friends with the party and gets along with his fellow Travelers’ Temple clerics, but perhaps his closest relationship is with the god Celestian. Tae was not born in Kalashport and for most of his life did not know his ancestry. Celestian has guided him to the city to find out who he really is, and Tae in turn helps clear the paths for other wanderers in his wake. Tae has long questioned Celestian's plan and has struggled with not knowing what the god wants of him.

Recently in the Faction campaign, Tae has found out that he is the heir to the Elven Dynasty and the half-brother of Manchego. This information has weighed heavily on both brothers, as they struggle to comprehend each of their personal goals in relation to the other. Tae especially wonders whether Celestian intended him to help with Manchego's plan to destroy the Empire Drake and save the city, or whether the god simply wanted him to find his blood relatives for personal closure.

History

Pre-Campaign

Tae-hyun was an orphan somewhere far from Kalashport. He came to worship Celestian, the god of travelers and the night sky, and he became a cleric. Celestian gave Tae-hyun a sign that his calling lies in Kalashport, and he took this to understand that Celestian intends for him to learn the truth of his origin there.

Faction Campaign

Tae-hyun joined the party in Chapter 1 and helped them investigate The Cloud kidnappings. In Highland Heights, Tae opened up to both Fet and Yin about his journey and struggles to find out more about himself in Kalashport. At the same time, Tae's releationship soured with Rycan due to Rycan's accusations that everyone else is working for The Cloud. At the FerrCO building, Tae found evidence that he might be related to the company's missing CEO, Sylvester Machado. He read a book detailing the Elven Dynasty's past, which was annotated to include further members, including Sylvester, who had two children - one named Manuel Machado, and one whose name was scratched out.

Manchego admitted to the party that he is Manuel Machado, and that he murdered Sylvester so that he could establish the The Curds and find and destroy the Elven Dynasty's Empire Drake weapon. The party at this point had already known this, and Tae told Manchego that he thinks they are half-brothers. Tae-hyun and Manchego slowly started to warm up to each other and they and the party defeated the Empire Drake before it could destroy the city.

Tae used Speak With Dead to talk to the body of his father, Sylvester Machado. He learned that he is the result of Sylvester's secret affair with a coworker. Upon his birth, Tae and his mother were separately banished in order to protect Sylvester's reputation. Tae started investigating who the banished woman could have been.

Appearance

Tae is a young human man with a short stature, messy black hair, and lavender eyes. He wears a baggy beige Cleric robe with purple and gold accents representing the god Celestian. Tae has a birthmark on his forehead almost resembling some kind of strange symbol, but he keeps his hair cut low to cover it.
