Overview
SCHNI (Synthetically Created Human Neuro-Intelligence) is Qaid’s first character for the Faction Campaign. He is a humanoid construct made several hundred years ago by a lost civilization in Kalashport. He lives in cycles of iterations, and he only vaguely remembers the lives of past iterations. In his current iteration, he is a detective for the Kalashport Police Department
Personality and Relationships
SCHNI’s personality likely varies with his iterations. In the present, SCHNI is friendly, inquisitive, and has a strong sense of justice. As a construct, he lacks natural human emotion, but still tries to establish connections with others.
Four years ago, KPD detective Weston James found SCHNI deactivated in an abandoned FerrCO mine. Weston programmed SCHNI to be his detective assistant, and got approval to bring him on cases for the police. Weston became almost a father figure to SCHNI, and the two formed a close bond. Weston left the police shortly after FerrCO’s collapse but SCHNI decided to stay. They still keep in touch, but Weston’s great distaste for the police department prevents them from being close.
After Weston left the police, SCHNI started to report directly to Lt. Bighammer. SCHNI respected Bighammer, but their relationship grew strained when she started to slip into authoritarianism. SCHNI was hurt by her indifference to the kidnapping cases, and appalled at her creation of the POG officers. SCHNI ended up killing Bighammer with the help of the party, took her place as police chief, and started working to roll back her unjust provisions.
SCHNI initially disapproved of the members of The Prestige, attacking them in their hideout and threatening to turn them in for violation of the Stability Provision. However, he made a deal with them to help find the missing people in Midtown. SCHNI and Markistus became unlikely friends as result. In addition, SCHNI hired the Prestige leader Amethyst as his assistant after Bighammer’s death.
Appearance
SCHNI has tan synthetic skin and short gray hair. He wears a navy police detective uniform, which he keeps in pristine condition. He owns a small, flying reconnaissance robot that helps with investigations.
