Superdimensional Entities

Superdimensional entities (SDEs) are objects or organisms that exist simultaneously in at least two planes of existence. SDEs have immense innate planar, chronal, and sometimes biological magic, which makes them valuable to those able to harness their power. SDEs are incredibly rare in the universe. The only known SDEs are the Meteorite Ore in Umbria and the Maple Tree Network in Kalashport.

Any normal object or creature is connected to its own plane of existence. A powerful source of planar magic can break this connection and establish a new one in another plane. While difficult to change a single planar connection, it is nearly impossible to make an object have permanent connection with multiple planes. Superdimensional entities are objects or creatures created with an incredibly powerful source of planar magic that allows them permanent residence in multiple planes.

Planes are not necessarily chronologically linked. To effectively have an SDE, a permanent time link must be made between the version of the entity in each plane. For example, the Maple Tree Network in Kalashport was created with a chronal link so that when people used it to cross planes, they would not suffer time dilation. Furthermore, a biological magic link must be made between planes so that the life of the SDE can exist in multiple planes.

A stable SDE has all three of its planar, chronal, and biological links intact. Any change affecting it in one plane will effect it in any other of its linked planes. Abuse of the SDE’s innate magic can result in an unstable SDE, where one or multiple of the links are damaged. For example, the druids of Evening City damaged the Maple Tree Network’s chronal link, meaning anyone who tried to pass through the network without specific protections had the potential to suffer time dilation.
